case study - vantage racing

The Vantage Racing Team approached us in late 2009 with a view to building them a visually impactive and leading-edge web site that would showcase the team online. Although some content would be static, it was apparent that the team would like to be able to regularly upload race reports, interviews with drivers, pictures and news items.
Pole Position
We wanted to give Vantage the best racing team site in the world, so extensively researched their primary competition, and found that in some cases the standard was already set fairly high. Our site would need to compete with and out-perform several really well-built and designed existing sites.
We would need to incorporate sound and video, animation and graphic elements into a framework that was high design, but based around an easily search engine accessible HTML framework. As some pages featured content that was very rarely to change, and others that would be constantly evolving, we decided to build them an entirely custom Race Diary system.
The Starting Grid
We built the site in a .net environment and used AJAX to construct the Race diary, which allowed viewing of any race ever completed by the team in one in a very compact and logical way, whilst also being graphically rewarding and easy to navigate. For each race, Vantage would be able to specify a number of race statistics, upload as many photos and captions as they wanted, include an optional interview or commentary audio file, and embed video from other sites and text content.
Hear Them Roar - Multimedia Content
Spherics were also involved in sound production for the website, and composed music for the intro video flash work in the home page, and did location recording of the famous Aston engines for inclusion on the cars section of the site. Although most of their photography and video work was produced by the team themselves and various race fans, we were called upon to contribute additional photography, image editing and post-production work, and all sound design elements.
The Chequered Flag
Vantage was built, tested and live to the world around a month after we started, and the client was extremely pleased with the result. We had built the site to be easily expandable, and this proved to be the case when we later updated the 'cars' section and added a news page, and some additional functionality to the Race Diary.
We very much enjoyed working on the project and have built a strong and ongoing relationship with the VR team. We look forward to working with them now and into the future, and wish them the very best in future races.
